Job Description – ACI Data Dictionary Intern

Position: Data Cleansing Intern (this is a PAID position)

Duration: 6-9 months (minimum is 6 months).

Hours: 18-24 hours per week with flexible days (more hours and full-time is also a possibility)

Role Overview:

The ACI Data Dictionary Intern will support the development, governance, and operational management of the ACI Data Dictionary, a foundational initiative underpinning the future Airport Flight Data Exchange (AFDX).

The role is closely linked to the work of the ACI Data Dictionary Working Group (WG) and Internal Review Group (IRG), and contributes directly to improving data standardisation, interoperability, and SWIM-compliant information exchange across airport ecosystems.

This internship is well suited for a candidate interested in aviation, data standards, information management, digital transformation, or systems interoperability in a global, multi-stakeholder environment.

Key duties and responsibilities:

The intern will support the Technology and Data Services team and the ACI Data Dictionary Working Group with tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Supporting the review and processing of proposed ACI Data Dictionary terms:
    • Verifying completeness, structure, and correct use of templates
    • Checking clarity, consistency, and alignment with AFDX scope
  • Assisting with the coordination and administration of the Data Dictionary Working Group and Internal Review Group:
    • Preparing meeting materials, summaries, and action logs
    • Tracking term status, feedback, and decision outcomes
  • Maintaining and updating Data Dictionary documentation and collaboration spaces (e.g. Confluence, spreadsheets, trackers)
  • Supporting consolidation and analysis of feedback from airports, industry partners, and subject matter experts
  • Helping identify overlaps, gaps, and inconsistencies in existing data terms
  • Assisting in preparing terms for approval and publication into the official ACI Data Dictionary
  • Conducting background research on related standards and initiatives (e.g. AODB, A-CDM, SWIM, EUROCONTROL, IATA)
  • Providing general administrative and analytical support to ensure smooth progress of the initiative

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented candidate with an interest in aviation, data, and digital systems. The ideal candidate will have:

Essential:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed studies in aviation management, information systems, data science, engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to work with structured information
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with an international team of SME’s from various airports like Heathrow, Avinor, Zurich Airport, Munich Airport and many others.

Desirable:

  • Interest or basic knowledge of:
    • Data standards, data dictionaries, or information models
    • Aviation operations (airports, airlines, ATM/ATC)
    • Digital transformation or system interoperability
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools (we use Confluence) and/or SharePoint, or similar.
  • Comfortable working in a multi-stakeholder, international environment

Duration Schedule & reporting:

The internship is initially offered for 3 to 6 months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance, availability, and project needs (extensions up to 6–9 months may be considered).

Working hours are 18–24 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate academic commitments. Increased hours or full-time engagement may be possible.

The intern will report to the Sr. director Data and analytics of the ACI Technology and Data Services team (IT/Data), with day-to-day tasking closely aligned with the ACI Data Dictionary Working Group Secretariat.

The role may be performed in a hybrid or remote setting, subject to ACI policies and location.
